Classroom to career- Alumni event held at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).
SAIT School of Business organised an alumni event on Feb 14, 2023, at McDonald Hall, Heritage Hall. It lasted for about two hours and around 100 students attended the event.
The event was all about building relationships with people, transferring your technical skills and helping your known or unknown friends in the future.
There were 4 alumni panel members present for the event. They were asked to introduce themselves by using three words that describe them the best. Curious, enthusiastic, resilient, driven, joyful, hardworking, positive, and stubborn were the words we got.
A series of questions were asked to the alumni students. The first one being, “Why did you choose SAIT? What did you enjoy the most here?” “Studying at SAIT was a great opportunity for me, and the employment rate percentage changed my mind”, said Alejandra Trujillo, one of the alumni members. “Programs offered by SAIT were the best, small and effective classroom interactions and solid experienced instructors kept me anchored to SAIT”, said Helle Rasmussen another alumni member.
The second question was, “At your time at SAIT, what are the things you think you should’ve known before graduating or while pursuing your degree?” We got mixed answers for this one, practical options available for students, impressing your fellow mates and instructors is the way, reaching out to professionals for advice and seeking help, showing off your talents, building relationships, learning essential ways to deal with various characteristics, striving hard to learn more and networking is the best way.
Third question, “How long did it take for you to adjust? How did you manage?” Two of the members answered to this by stating that it was hard for them to adjust to the weather and place. Switching languages, voicing our opinions, having a schedule, being proactive, figuring out stuff, seeking help and completing tasks ahead of time helped them cope with all the changes.
The final question being, “What are your secrets to work life balance?” Sacrificing time with your loved ones, planning accordingly, being prepared for what comes ahead, having the right support system, and showing off your best self.
“Fake it till you make it”, said Lovely Goosen and “Life is unpredictable, grab every opportunity available”, said Rasmussen.
